The seeds of Copenhagen Cyclery took root during research for a bicycle urbanism design competition entered by one of the owner's architecture firm. Inquiries quickly led to the City of Copenhagen, a place that sits rather comfortably at the top of European bicycle utopias. Here we witnessed a natural, effortless and stylish integration of the bicycle into everyday life. People weren't riding with an agenda; they were just riding... riding to work, to dinner or a café, to a store... They didn't wear spandex or specialty cycling attire or anything sporty for that matter. They weren't cyclists per say; they were people on bicycles. What caught our eye next was what they were riding. These Danes weren't hunched over mountain bikes or sweating on fixed gear bikes. Rather, they were coasting through Copenhagen on beautiful city bicycles, many decades old, with classic vintage details, built to last for years, a lifetime or even two. These bicycles were less "equipment for sport" and more accessories for living.
Copenhagen Cyclery brings these elegant, timeless ladies and men's bicycles to the American market. As our name suggests, we naturally launched our collection with Denmark's premier brand—Velorbis—the perfect fusion of Danish design and German engineering. Each traffic-stopping Velorbis bicycle is individually handcrafted in Germany with the highest quality parts ensuring that neither luxury nor excellence is sacrificed. Next we added Abici, a fabulously fun and feisty bicycle hand-built in one of three remaining bicycle factories in Italy. Our Batavus bicycles from the Netherlands combine Dutch durability with classic appeal. And, we round out our collection with a new Danish offering, The Bullitt Cargo Bike by Larry vs. Harry, the fastest in its class.
By curating and making accessible this unique collection, Copenhagen Cyclery hopes to reach existing and new bicycling audiences alike while bringing a fresh approach to the American bicycling culture. Our vision—to see professionals in suits pedal next to fashionistas in heels pedal next to moms with their kids pedal next to a couple biking to the park. We hope you enjoy our collection and encourage you to get your cycle-chic on.
